As above, so below

Updated: Apr 9, 2023

Ever look at the inside of a carrot and think, this looks like an eye?

The phrase "as above, so below" is a key principle in Hermeticism, which is a philosophical and esoteric tradition that originated in ancient Egypt and Greece. The principle suggests that there is a correspondence between the different levels of reality, so that what happens in one level is reflected in the other levels.

The phrase is often associated with the Emerald Tablet, which is a short and cryptic text that is attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary figure who was believed to be the god of wisdom in ancient Egypt. The Emerald Tablet is considered to be one of the foundational texts of Western alchemy and Hermeticism, and it has been studied and interpreted by many scholars and practitioners over the centuries.

The phrase "as above, so below" is often interpreted to mean that the patterns and processes that occur in the macrocosm (the universe, the cosmos, or the divine realm) are reflected in the microcosm (the individual, the earth, or the mundane realm). This principle suggests that there is a fundamental unity and interconnectedness in all things, and that by understanding the patterns and processes in one level, we can gain insight into the others.

While the inside of a carrot resembles an eye this connection exists that the vitamins in a carrot are good for eye health.

Carrots are an excellent source of beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, a nutrient that is essential for good vision. Consuming adequate amounts of vitamin A can help prevent night blindness and other eye conditions.
